English and Me

Hi! Welcome to my blog! Since this would be my first post here, let me tell just a bit about myself~ My name is Jesicca Levina Shannon, I came from Lampung and currently a student in Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana in Salatiga, so this blog will be filled with my class assignments! So, now that you know a bit about me, let's jump right into today's topic: English and Me. I will tell you a part of my English learning journey.

I was introduced English by my parents at a very young age of 4, my parents likes putting on English channels on the TV and soon I was curious enough to ask my mother about it. It didn't take long for them to enroll me into English classes for kids. During that time, I was just curious and overall excited, since I had no serious difficulties learning that new language. That's the time I found my love and passion for English and kept learning until now. What kept me going in learning English is so that I could understand my favorite cartoon in English, remember when I said my parents likes turning on English channels on the TV? I mean, who doesn't want to understand what their favorite characters are talking about?

Even though I have been studying English for quite a while, I still have some difficulties here and there about English. And that would be tenses! I'm talking about present tenses, future tenses, past tenses, you name it! I don't really memorize English, but I understand them and try to use them as often as I can in my daily activities, but tenses? You need to memorize the formulas! Before you could judge, I wouldn't be in university if I'm an expert, I'm still learning and that's alright! Everyone has their pros and cons. Alright, now we're gonna talk the easiest skill in English in my opinion. And that would be speaking! You don't need to be formal when speaking, and lately I have been practicing in speaking with my international friends every week! In my experience, talking to a native really improves my English for a long-term, slowly you'll pick up their habits in speaking and it definitely helps if you're trying to get a fluent accent, which is exactly what I'm aiming for.

Still talking about skills, there is a skill that I really enjoy most. And that's writing! I love pouring out my thoughts and try to indirectly communicate with you through my writing! I'm a very shy person, so writing is my only way to express how I think and feel. I'm also a fanfiction writer fyi! I've been making stories for more than 7 years now and I'm still making them now on Wattpad! So, I've been practicing my writing for a long time and I'm trying to improve my writing most! Now, how am I gonna improve, you ask? I'm planning to improve my overall English skills by reading other author's works and analyze their writing style, practicing my listening by calling my international friends or simply watching videos in YouTube, and most importantly attending class and pay attention!

Now, I'm trying not to go overboard with my reflection and end today's post! I'll see you in a future post and may God bless you!

-Jesicca.
