The Perfect Song
Hi hi! Back at it again with me! Hope you have a wonderful day! Another day, another blog! While last week we’re talking about bookmarks, today we’re talking about songs! Let us start!
The first story is a film adaptation of Mark Twain's novel
of the same name, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. This film is produced by David O.
Selznick and directed by Norman Taurog, released in 1983, and it is 1 hour and 30 minutes. Tom is
a mischievous child who envies Huck Finn's lazy lifestyle and freedom at the
start of the novel. However, as Tom's adventures progress, key moments reveal
Tom moving away from his childhood concerns and making mature, responsible
decisions. In the end, growing up for Tom means embracing social customs while
foregoing childhood freedoms. Now, the song that matches well with this film is
When I Was A Boy by Jeff Lynne's ELO.
When I was a boy, I learned to play
Far into the night and drift away
Don't wanna work on the milk or the bread
Just wanna play my guitar instead
I chose this song because it represents how, as children,
most of us were hesitant to work and take on responsibilities because we had
certain interests and passions that could keep us busy all day and night, much
like Tom got away from whitewashing the fences and went on adventures with
Huckleberry Finn.
The second story, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, is a
sequel to The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, written by the same author, Mark Twain.
The plot of Huckleberry Finn tells the story of two characters' attempts to
achieve self-sufficiency. Huck longs to be free of society's physical and
mental constraints, whereas Jim is fleeing a life of literal enslavement. The
novel's climax occurs when Huck must choose between revealing Jim's
whereabouts, ensuring Jim's return to slavery, and implicating himself in
breaking the law by freeing a slave. The song that fits well with this novel is
Sia’s Bird Set Free. This song was chosen to represent the scene in which
everyone discovers Jim is a free man. "I had a voice, had a voice, but I
could not sing," the song says. This demonstrates Jim's desire to speak up
but his inability to do so due to his race.
Well, you reached the end of today's post! I'll see you all in another day's blog post as usual!
Ciao!
